IPHour: Designs In India & the EU

quoteDesign has universal commercial value, but legal protection varies across jurisdictions. Plus, design protection must be considered at the outset of product development, not after commercial success.quote

Our recent IP Hour webinar, “Design Protection Across Borders: India & the EU – Convergence, Contrast & Commercial Strategy”, brought together Emmanuel Collin, Industrial Design Examiner at the EUIPO, and Samta Mehra, Partner and Trademark & Design Chair at Remfry & Sagar, for a discussion moderated by Raashi Jain, Managing Associate.

The conversation examined key differences and similarities between the Indian and EU design protection frameworks, including filing strategies, disclosure requirements and the interplay between designs, copyright and trademarks. The speakers also explored how design law is responding to technological developments, particularly in relation to graphical user interfaces (GUIs), animation and virtual designs, and the implications for businesses seeking protection across borders.
