The BRICS IP Forum 2018
Chengdu, China

The BRICS IP Forum (BIPF) marked its 10 year anniversary at the Annual Conference held in Chengdu, China on March 28, 2018. Gaurav Mukerjee (Partner) and Ritam Rawal (Managing Associate) attended – Gaurav spoke on the ‘Protection of Well-known Marks’ and Ritam shared insights on ‘Changing Paradigms of Patenting Computer Related Inventions’ and ‘Expediting Examination of Patent Applications’.
The BIPF is an outcome of a collaboration between law firms from the BRICS countries – DANIEL Legal & IP Strategy (Brazil), Gorodissky & Partners (Russia), Remfry & Sagar (India), CCPIT Patent & Trademark Law Office (China) and this year, the guest law firm – Von Seidels Intellectual Property Attorneys (South Africa). The BRICS countries have grown into an important platform for cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries and the BIPF presents a valuable opportunity to discuss and debate IP responses to common, topical intellectual property issues. This year’s meeting had over 180 attendees from the industry, practice and relevant government organisations. Discussions focussed on new trends in IP policy, prosecution, transactions and policing – with case studies and comparative analyses ensuring practical takeaways from sessions – view brochure here.
Incidentally, the 10th edition of the BIPF was held in the background of the 10th meeting of the BRICS IP Office Commissioners and signing of a joint declaration of cooperation between the said offices.
