Calcutta – the Firm is founded

Henry Oliver Remfry, a solicitor, sails from Cornwall to Calcutta (now Kolkata) where he sets about his life recording deeds and declarations

1911

A new patent legislation comes into force

The first patent filed under the new act is prosecuted by the Firm through Rupert Remfry

1936

Records reveal the dramatic expansion of
‘Remfry’s World’

A century after inception, the Firm’s footprint stretches from the Solomon Islands in the east to Egypt in the west

1973

The firm is ‘Indianised’

Dr. Sagar, a successful solicitor and barrister running 'Sagar & Company', is invited by the Remfry family to acquire the practice

1977

Relocation from Calcutta to New Delhi

Trade union disputes force an overnight shift to Delhi with nary a file or document

1990

The name of the practice becomes ‘Remfry & Sagar’

The practices of ‘Sagar & Company’ and ‘Remfry & Son’ are merged to become ‘Remfry & Sagar’

2001

The firm is institutionalised

From a sole proprietorship, the firm is structured into a partnership

2011

Mantle of leadership passes on

Dr. Vidya Sagar passes away in February 2011. Ashwin Julka now leads the practice as Managing Partner
